Maine Boat Stickers

Beginning in 2002, a Maine boat sticker is required on all motorized watercraft on inland waters each year. They may be puchased at the Marina. In 2005, the cost was $10 for a Maine resident; non-resident $20. Affix the sticker to the boat's bow, next to the registration.

From the Maine DEP brochure..."Your Boat Sticker helps fund local efforts to inspect boats and has trained 120 volunteers to inspect more than 6,000 boats."

NH Boat Safety Course

Every boat operator on Balch, both Maine and New Hampshire residents, is required to pass a safety course to obtain a license. You can prepare for the test using the Internet at www.boat-ed.com/nh/index.htm . You may be able to take the test online too. In 2006, the cost of a permanant operator lisence is $25. A temporary 45-day liscense costs $15.

Lake Access

You can launch at the Marina for a nominal fee. There are no public launches or state owned access sites. Most access to Balch is private.
